Title of Talk The Gentlemen of Gatton and Merstham Guest Speaker Alex Hunter
Venue Woodhatch Centre, Whitebeam Drive, off Hornbeam Road, Reigate, RH2 7LS.
Additional Information While there are virtually no ancient monuments in Merstham or Gatton, both have a very long and interesting history. Alex's talk focuses on both the national characters that were based in Merstham and on the key owners of Gatton's "rotten" borough, drawing comparisons with current topics. History may not repeat itself, but historical situations do!
As usual at a Members Evening, before the talk there will be drinks available and a finger buffet, followed by the presentation of the Society's Annual Awards.

Title of Talk Reigate Priory - Another Chapter Guest Speaker Carolyn Burnley

Additional Information An opportunity to see a new film which brings the story of the Priory right up to date, and to hear about its creation from the producer.

Title of Talk Duxhurst, Lady Henry Somerset's Village for Inebriate Women Guest Speaker Ros Black
Venue Priory School, Bell Street, Reigate, RH2 7RL.
Additional Information The life of Lady Henry Somerset is the subject of Ros Black's first book. In her second, on which this talk is based, she focuses on the village Lady Henry built at Duxhurst, which is South of Sidlow and became a charitable community.

Title of Talk An Archaeological Survey of Reigate Heath Guest Speaker Rosemary Hooker
Venue St Mark's Church Hall, Alma Road, Reigate, RH2 0DA.
Additional Information Starting in 2009 survey work was carried out on Reigate Heath on behalf of the Surrey Archaeological Society. Rosemary will explain the conclusions that have been drawn and describe some of the previously unrecognised features which were found.

Title of Talk The History of Brooklands Guest Speaker Allan Winn
Venue Tanners & Woolsack Rooms, The Harlequin, Redhill, RH1 1NN.
Additional Information Brooklands is known as the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation, and the director of the Brooklands Museum will portray its past and the present.

Title of Talk The Restoration Tapestry of St. Katharine's, Merstham Guest Speaker Libby Green
Venue Reigate Methodist Community Centre, Room F3, High St., Reigate, RH2 9AE.
Additional Information St. Katharine's Church is 13th century, and is the oldest building in Merstham. The tapestry has been made by members of the church in aid of the restoration fund and Libby Green will give an an illustrated talk about the history of the church based on the squares of the tapestry. This will be the first Reigate Society talk to be held in the new Reigate Methodist Community Centre.
